Musou Mode is the story and condition-based unlock path; Free Mode is the flexible replay and progression path; Challenge Mode scores specialized tests; VS Mode is competitive; Edit handles officer, bodyguard and Weapon Fusion preparation; System controls difficulty, input and normal/classic behavior.
