Free Mode Progression in DW3 Remastered
Use Free Mode after unlocking a scenario when you want repeatable progression without replaying an officer’s complete story path. Growth items, equipment and weapons collected there carry over to other modes, so one familiar route can train an officer and supply later Weapon Fusion work.
Why use Free Mode for progression?
Section titled “Why use Free Mode for progression?”Free Mode lets you choose officer and scenario combinations without normal story restrictions, including hypothetical situations where an officer can join an opposing force. More importantly for progression, the publisher confirms that growth items, equipment and weapons gathered in Free Mode carry over to other game modes.
That role is different from Musou Mode, which provides officer stories and condition-based unlocks. The game modes reference keeps those boundaries in one table.
Build a repeatable session
Section titled “Build a repeatable session”- Choose a scenario you have already completed and can navigate without guessing.
- Select the officer you want to develop or the moveset you need to learn.
- Pick a difficulty that lets you finish reliably while still exposing the weaknesses of the build.
- Follow one route through important officers and nearby pickups.
- Complete the battle, then review growth items, equipment and weapons before starting another run.
A reliable completion is more valuable than an ambitious route that repeatedly loses the allied commander. If a pickup requires abandoning a critical front, leave it for a later run.
Separate farming from testing
Section titled “Separate farming from testing”Use one session to gather materials and a second, controlled run to test changes. When you fuse a weapon, keep the officer, scenario, difficulty and route stable so that the weapon is the main variable. The Weapon Fusion guide explains this comparison method.
Does Free Mode replace Musou Mode?
Section titled “Does Free Mode replace Musou Mode?”No. Musou Mode remains the verified path for individual officer stories and special-condition officer unlocks. Free Mode is the flexible replay and collection layer. A practical loop is:
Musou Mode unlock → Free Mode repeat → review equipment → Weapon Fusion preview → Free Mode test.
See progression and carryover for the system-level record and the beginner guide for when to enter this loop.
What remains unverified?
Section titled “What remains unverified?”The public official material checked for this page does not publish a complete table of item locations, difficulty multipliers, drop probabilities or optimal scenario yields. Reforged Field Manual therefore does not label any stage “best” without current-build evidence. The route above remains useful because it relies on the confirmed carryover rule and on repeatable player-controlled comparisons.
