The wider game modes Wiki explains each mode’s purpose.

  1. Connect and verify both local input devices before entering a long battle.
  2. Open Musou Mode for story progress or Free Mode for a flexible scenario.
  3. Confirm each player’s officer and input assignment in the game UI.
  4. Agree on the battle priority: protect the allied commander, satisfy a special condition, or collect equipment.
  5. Stay within routes that let both players respond to urgent messages. Splitting too far can make a critical rescue impossible.

PC supports multiple controller types and fully customizable mouse-and-keyboard controls, but the official product page does not enumerate every two-player device combination. Verify both inputs in your current build. See PC and platform features for the published hardware notes.

Use Musou Mode when the goal is story progression or a condition-based officer unlock. Use Free Mode when the goal is repeatable collection, experimentation or a faction pairing that the story would normally prevent. Items gathered in Free Mode carry to other modes, so it is the more flexible cooperative progression choice.

For progression planning, use the Free Mode guide. For unlock attempts, follow the officer unlock workflow.

This guide does not describe online co-op because the inspected official split-screen statement is specifically about offline two-player play. It also does not promise a particular frame rate, split orientation or device pairing on every platform. Those details require a current-build platform check rather than inference from the existence of split screen.
